Baby Steps and Fairy Wings
May 2nd, 2008 by nikki

More Sea Merino and more Troika coming to the shop today! Yay! Silk Lace, too.
…
I’ve been dyeing roving and spinning it, too. I call this one Fairy Wings.

Fiber :: Corriedale roving in Fairy Wings
Source :: Louet roving that came with the purchase of my wheel. Dyed my me!
Quantity :: 4oz, ? yards
WPI :: 11-12wpi. Worsted/bulky.
It turns out my first attempt at dyeing roving turned out a little felt-y. Oops. Baby steps. On the plus side, my spinning is improving! Yay!

I’ve found that stuffing my non-superwash roving into pantyhose (as in ‘The Woolhouse Presents’ series on the yarn harlot blog) is a great help against felting. It’s also nice to be able to put the stuffed pantyhose in the washer for a quick spin cycle after you’re done with the dyeing and rinsing- it dries super fast. Congratulations on your new wheel- your handspun yarns are gorgeous!
your yarns are beautiful & when I’m off my yarn diet (for one whole month!) I am deffinately going to raid your shop!
Ohhhhhhh……I think I could totally suffer through some of your slightly felted roving! Anything that you deem too felted to work with? Send it my way! ;>
